It’s only July but Pikelet (my soon to be 1st grader) has picked out his new shoes for school. Ever since he received his new fashion forward and 100% vegan CHOOZE shoes, he’s smitten with the idea of how cool he’ll look on the first day of school.
IttyBittyFoodies aren’t the only mini fashionistas fascinated with the line. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has been seen sporting the camouflage Scout shoes all over the world on her vacations.
“This is about allowing kids to express themselves and empowering parents to let your kids be kids. These are play shoes and changing your perspestive to new ideas. It’s about creativity and confidence. And confidence to wear mismatched shoes,” says founder, Sharon Blumberg, excitedly at the CHOOZE fall preview.
Yes you read right, the shoes are mismatched. It’s not for every kid but Pikelet loves the quirk and fun. Blumberg, a mom of three children also adds sensible practicalities such as machine washability, anti microbial insoles and durable outer soles. The shoes are constructed without any animal products.
In addition, CHOOZE supports an antipoverty program. “At the end of each year, before profits get to be taken in by any shareholders of the company, they first need to spend a year in service. We are going to be investing our profits in micro finance institutions that provide loans, training, support and education to women in poverty so that they can start their own businesses.” The loans are paid back after a year and the cycle starts again. “It’s a hand up rather than a hand out,” says Blumberg.
Unfortunately for Lollo, he’s in between sizes and shall need to wait before he can get a pair. But in the meantime, he is simply content with the idea of decorating his brother’s CHOOZE shoe box, a blank canvas. Yes, even the shoe boxes inspire creativity and individuality, just the way Blumberg designed it.
