“Why do you like kulfi so much?” I ask Pikelet. “Because only Indian people get to eat it,” he replies, giving his pistachio kulfi pop another lick. “Are you Indian?” I laugh. “Yes,” he says definitively. “Although, I also like sushi and I might be Japanese,” he adds.
Kaurina’s Kulfi – a delicious summer treat!
Kreuz Market – Lockhart Texas
Summer time means road trips especially around the Texas Hill Country. Beefcake’s favorite BBQ spots of all time is Kreuz Market in Lockhart, Tx. Lockhart has long time been known as the BBQ capital.
We favor Kreuz Market because they are bold enough to serve their meat almost naked, no sauce with just a rub. It’s heaven when there’s nothing in between you and a perfect prime rib. Texans have an unrivalled talent for smoking and slow roasting meats, there’s no need to hide it if it’s done right.
Hattie’s Restaurant – Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff
We’ll never forget the first time we went to Hattie’s Restaurant in 2004 and our delight as we walked in to this Southern mainstay of Bishop Arts District. For this reason, whenever we have visitors, Hattie’s Restaurant tops our list. We enjoy watching their eyes light up in surprise as they step into the sunbathed and airy dining room, a contrast to it’s jet black exterior. Of course, the delectable Southern comfort cuisine remains as consistent as ever.
Kale Naturals – in time for Father’s Day
It seems like all healthy eaters are obssessed with kale these days. The hardy cabbage is very high in beta carotene, vitamin K, vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin, and reasonably rich in calcium. But there’s another ’kale’ on our lips or rather, faces… Kale Naturals. Dana Kale who is fortuitous to own the healthy surname have released an all natural men’s grooming line along with fellow Park Cities mama, Tia Pettijohn.
Hypnotic Donuts
Dallas has fallen under the spell of Hypnotic Donuts in Casa Linda. At 9.45am on a Saturday morning, our line was busting out the door as they tortured us with the beckoning aromas of donuts mixed with fried chicken. The cult following started in 2010 when Hypnotic Donuts shared a space with The Pizza Guy on weekends. This year, the Hypnotic hyppies finally found a home just down the street from the Dallas Arboretum on Garland Road.
