Take a break at Main Street Garden, the green oasis in downtown Dallas that is bordered by Main, St Paul, Commerce and Ervay Streets. With its gorgeous grounds, cafe, spray park, children’s playground and dog run, Main Street Garden is a haven for families, even Fido.
On one corner in a tiny green building, sits the modern Lily Pad cafe. Chef Douglas Brown (of another downtown venture, Beyond the Box) created a menu of what he calls “sustainable street food’ made with fresh organic and seasonal produce.
On the menu, are breakfast tacos, muffins, salads like a Grilled Chicken Greek Salad, pressed flats which are whole wheat tortillas pressed with fillings like natural shaved ham and apple smoked bacon pressed and served hot and hot dogs made with Niman Ranch all natural beef. There are even doggie treats for sale.

- O’ happy day!
Beefcake and I love that the Lily Pad cafe overlooks the entire park, so the little ones can splash around the fountains or climb onto the playground while we sit (peacefully) and enjoy (uninterrupted) conversation over a natural glass of refreshing strawberry green tea or a tasty Blue Sky soda. They also serve beer and wine.
When kids are done playing, they rejuvenate with a cup of sweet Madagascar vanilla YO’ganic frozen yogurt topped with strawberry sauce, blueberries and sometimes… even candy. O’ happy day.
Till our next happy meal!
Itty Bitty Info:

it gets five smiley faces because it has healthy food, a playground and a spray park - Cost: from $1.35 for a breakfast taco to $7.25 for a Mediterranean Plate
Itty Bitty Foodies Tip: Make your downtown Dallas jaunt even more exciting and take the DART rail (nearest station St Paul). You’ll be lowering your carbon footprint and the kids will love the train ride.
