Main Street Garden – eat, play & splash

by Cheryl Collett, Itty Bitty Foodies - Yummy Adventures with Kids!

Lily Pad Cafe @ Main Street Garden

Take a break at Main Street Garden, the green oasis in downtown Dallas that is bordered by Main, St Paul, Commerce and Ervay Streets. With its gorgeous grounds, cafe, spray park, children’s playground and dog run, Main Street Garden  is a haven for families, even Fido.

On one corner in a tiny green building, sits the modern Lily Pad cafe. Chef Douglas Brown (of another downtown venture, Beyond the Box) created a menu of what he calls “sustainable street food’ made with fresh organic and seasonal produce.

On the menu, are breakfast tacos, muffins, salads like a Grilled Chicken Greek Salad, pressed flats which are whole wheat tortillas pressed with fillings like natural shaved ham and apple smoked bacon pressed and served hot and hot dogs made with Niman Ranch all natural beef. There are even doggie treats for sale.

Beefcake and I love that the Lily Pad cafe overlooks the entire park, so the little ones can splash around the fountains or climb onto the playground while we sit (peacefully) and enjoy (uninterrupted) conversation over a natural glass of refreshing strawberry green tea or a tasty Blue Sky soda. They also serve beer and wine.

When kids are done playing, they rejuvenate with a cup of sweet Madagascar vanilla YO’ganic frozen yogurt topped with strawberry sauce, blueberries and sometimes… even candy. O’ happy day.

Till our next happy meal!

Itty Bitty Info:

  • Food: Small menu with fresh ingredients.
  • Ambience: Modern and open air. Misters are on during the hot weather but the view of the park is unbeatable.
  • Service: Order at the counter and the server will bring out your food.
  • Kid Friendliness: :) :) :) :) :) it gets five smiley faces because it has healthy food, a playground and a spray park
  • Cost: from $1.35 for a breakfast taco to $7.25 for a Mediterranean Plate

Itty Bitty Foodies Tip: Make your downtown Dallas jaunt even more exciting and take the DART rail (nearest station St Paul). You’ll be lowering your carbon footprint and the kids will love the train ride.

Parent Foodies Tip: Located @ 1920 Main St, Dallas Tx 75201. If you park along the street, the staff are more than happy to give you change when you dine in the Lily Pad Cafe. Call (214) 529-6706

  1. Hi there!
Congratulations on starting your new blog!

    ^_^

  2. Congratulations! Love the topic too! Lucky you for having two such accomodating little tykes, my 15mth old won’t eat anything unless it tastes like cheese, banana or chocolate! Love his choices, but would rather we could get some veges into him. So in our house macaroni cheese is always green, orange or yellow, depending on what veges I can steam, pulverise and disguise with cheese!
Can’t wait to read more of your adventures!
    G =)

  3. Just keep trying! Their tastes change. Pikelet used to eat a whole steamed eggplant but now won’t touch it. I used to steam it with a clove of garlic and then blend it. Whereas Lollo wouldn’t eat tofu and now he loves it. Just keep putting different things infront of them.

  4. Love it…love it…love it! Cheryl definitely knows about food, being a food critic and writing for major publications:-) I love how you have now incorporated some “kid friendly” restaurants! Congratulations on your new blog! I will spread the word to all the people I can:-)

  5. Awesome C!!! Thank you for this site! I want to follow your foodie adventures!

  6. I wondered what that place was! Thanks for the review~I shall take the ladies there sometime, soon!

  7. Where is the best place to park?
